Move Over, Erma. Life Is a Bowl of Candied Yams
A Thanksgiving feast to remember
Now THAT’S something worth celebrating…
I think just about every writer involved in personal development has a Thanksgiving blog to share…
Most will be as sugary sweet as baked, candied yams. (I’d never tasted yams until I moved to America. Man, are they addictive.)
I struggle to follow the trend because, as an Englishman, I know that the history of intolerant puritans, greedy settlers, slavery, and genocide is one of the more shameful in all of English history (and we have plenty of episodes to choose from).
This is not American history, although most Americans assume this. It was actually ‘pre-America,’ during a time of European-sponsored land grabs and slavery.
Despite the dark past, there were remarkable feats of kindness and forgiveness… much like today, 400 years later.
And while I don’t think it’s feasible to compare 1620 to 2020 (although I’m sure many self-help gurus will try), it’s worth noticing that in what has been a disruptive year for everyone globally —
The darkness has also been regularly punctured by acts of kindness and forgiveness.
